What is it?

  • Ongoing assistance providing core functions of key finance and strategy executive roles (e.g. VP of Finance or CFO / COO) for a fraction of the cost

  • Increased level of engagement and a more “embedded” role within the business

  • Engagement intended to continue until the business is in a position to a hire full-time role

When is it most valuable?

  • Fractional executive services make sense when your organization is at a stage where a level of ongoing oversight, insight and accountability support in the respective areas (e.g. financial, strategic and operational planning) would be valuable, but you are not yet at a stage where you need a CFO or COO 40-60 hours a week and it is not financially viable to bring in a full-time individual with the appropriate background to focus on these areas

  • Note that we typically do not consider engaging in a fractional executive role without initially conducting some consulting work with the prospective client to ensure an appropriate fit

How is it different from a consulting engagement?

  • Whereas consulting engagements are usually an intensive short-term period of significant hours and focused analysis to achieve a specified outcome, our fractional executive services are billed at a recurring monthly rate and provide your organization with an ongoing daily / weekly level of part-time support and assistance in the agreed focus areas

  • Importantly, versus an outside-in approach as a consultant, the goal as a fractional executive is to operate as a core part of your team in this more embedded role

  • Typically involves assisting with creation of budgets or building business models, general FP&A assistance and insight, strategic guidance, etc.
